Merano Wine Festival 2018: discover the program and the unmissable events from 9 to 13 November 2018

Just a few days before the start of the Merano Wine Festival 2018, the prestigious event that this year is celebrating its 27th edition. Founded by Helmuth Köcher in 1992, the Merano Wine Festival has focused solely on the selection of top quality products in an exclusive ambience, becoming an unmissable event for both wine operators and lovers. This festival is more than just an event; it is a forum of the wine industry that provides an international platform for exchange between producers, industry leaders, professionals, and consumers. It is truly a proper benchmark for high quality and an optimal reference for discerning buyers. Every company selected is part of the wine-world’s elite.

The 5 days program of the 27th edition is full of events and high-level contents. set to attend are over 500 of Italy and the world’s best winemakers, almost 200 producers of culinary products, and 15 prominent chefs. An expression of the best in food & wine that our world has to offer, selected by the WineHunter Award Commission.

The first two days of the Festival will be dedicated to organic, biodynamic and PIWI wines. In fact, during Naturae Et Purae it will be possible to attend conferences and tastings focusing on natural wines.

The official tastings will start on Saturday with the MWF – The Official Selection. Over 300 Italian wineries will offer tasting of their most valuable labels and latest releases. Tastings will take place from Saturday to Monday in the elegant spaces of the Kurhaus, the symbol of the city of Merano. The area Vino International will host some of the best wineries of the most interesting wine regions from all over the world.

New this year is The Circle, an external multipurpose area in the close proximity of the Kurhaus. Here a series of initiatives and meetings will be held to deepen and explore the different Italian territories: the gastronomic excellences, the competences, the abilities, the pluses of the different destinations that are enhanced in different meetings. A great number of journalists, critics, sommeliers, restaurateurs and producers will alternate on the stage from Saturday to Monday.

Surely, the Merano Wine Festival ends in style. On the closing day in fact there will be the Catwalk Champagne, Showcooking and Tasting of over 250 Champagne paired with great dishes.

Surely worth mentioning are the Charity Wine Masterclasses, high-quality guided tastings that will be held at the Hotel Terme from 10 to 12 November. All proceeds will be donated to charity. Below is our selection.

Winery: Montevertine (Tuscany)

Discovering the most famous black grape variety in Tuscany: Sangiovese. Montevertine winery, located in the town of Radda in Chianti, is one of the best expressions of this variety. The tasting, conducted personally by the owner Martino Manetti, will compare the two most representative labels produced: Le Pergole Torte and Montevertine.

Capezzana is among the oldest wineries in Italy. The wine production dates back to 804 D.C. The family Contini Bonacossi, owner since 1920, presents a vertical of its most representative wine: Carmignano. The splendid Tenuta di Capezzana is part of the prestigious selection of Gotto Wine Tour cellars and offers a wide range of tours and tastings.
